NYC Winter Lookbook

And the countdown begins! December 26, I’m leaving to go to Canada then flying to New York right after. That’s right. This crazy Floridian decided to go to Canada in the middle of winter. I’m so excited, though, so I thought I’d take you on the journey and show you what I plan on wearing to get me pumped and spread some outfit inspiration that will keep you warm and looking good. The best part is that most of these pieces are thrifted or hand-me-downs, so not only are all the outfits super affordable but also sustainable!

Look 1

Ever since my summer in Sweden, I’ve been obsessing over the casual blazer trend. There’s something so effortlessly chic about Scandinavian style, and I think this outfit does an excellent job of capturing it.  Not only does it take on the casual blazer trend, but also the Swedish favorite: Fjallraven backpack. Whether you’re spending the day getting work down at a co-working space or grabbing your morning coffee before hitting the thrift shops, this outfit covers all the basics. Pair this outfit with a pair of Air Force 1, and it’s the perfect outfit for sightseeing!

Sweater: Thrifted- Ralph Lauren
Belt: Mom’s Old Belt- Brighton
Necklace: Forever 21
Jeans: Thrifted- Route 66 Relaxed Fit
Backpack: Fjallraven

Look 2

Okay, so in New York, I’ll definitely be wearing tights underneath, I just haven’t had the time to run to the store, but here it is. I love how it plays with contrasting feminine and masculine pieces. Throw on some Doc Martens, grab your polaroid camera, and head up to the skyline rise for a great view and a cute photoshoot!

Pieces
Coat: Dad’s Old Trench- Shasa
Sweater: Mom’s Old Sweater- Wainscott
Necklace: Forever 21
Skirt: Thrifted- Mossimo
Polaroid- Instax Square 6

Look 3

I hinted at this in the first outfit, but I love the idea of playing with traditionally business and casual pieces to create a look that borders somewhere in the middle. I feel like New York exhibits this style perfectly. Everyone always manages to look their best without being overdressed. Just like jeans with a blazer, you can dress down formal pants with a graphic tee. Bonus points if it’s a band tee! I chose to stay slightly more formal by adding loafers, but you can choose a more casual route with some white chunky tennis shoes! For added warmth, pair a turtleneck under the tee.

Pieces
Coat: Dad’s Old Trench- Shasa
Tee: Thrifted- Popular Demand
Belt: Mom’s Old Belt- Brighton
Watch: Gifted
Loafers: Thrifted- Forever21
Pants: Thrifted-Versini

Look 4

One of my favorite new trends is wearing cardigans as shirts. I love the 90s feel of cardigans. I’ve always loved wearing sweaters, I know it’s ironic since I’m from Florida, but sometimes I find the fit of sweaters aren’t as flattering as I would like. I think cardigans offer the perfect blend of coziness and a figure-flattering silhouette. Despite still feeling like I’m wrapped up in my PJs, this outfit feels less gremlin then my traditional hoodie and sweats!

Sweater: Thrifted- Deane & White
Belt: Mom’s Old Belt- Brighton
Necklace: Forever 21
Jeans: Thrifted- Route 66 Relaxed Fit

Look 5

Maybe it’s the turtle neck or the fitted skirt, but this outfit gives me all the Rachel Green vibes. Add a Central Perk apron, and I finally get to live out my dream of becoming a New York barista. I love how versatile it can be; I can choose to dress it up with some pantyhose and block heels or keep it casual with Doc Martens.

Look 6

Pieces
Sweater: American Eagle
Skirt: American Eagle
Purse: Thrifted-

My mom gifted me this coat, and I could not be more obsessed. I love the deep colors; if you can’t see in the picture, it’s a dark forest green and a navy blue with yellow accents. I think paired with simple monochromatic basics, this outfit is the perfect combination of slimming and lengthening while still having enough of a statement piece for visual interest.

Look 7

Pieces
Coat: Marshalls- Rachel Zoe
Sweater: Thrifted-
Jeans: Thrifted- Basic Editions
Backpack: Fjallraven

Did I just take over as Editor in Chief of a female-empowered magazine, or am I still the intern running out for the morning coffee run? With this outfit, I can be both, although Editor in Chief sounds preferable. Unlike the jeans in the first outfit, the skirt plays up the formality of the blazer, without taking away from its overall statement value. I mean, can we just talk about the gorgeous collar.

Look 8

Pieces
Coat: Thrifted- Classiques Enties
Sweater: Thrifted- Ralph Lauren
Necklace: Forever 21
Skirt: Thrifted- Mossimo

I love how reminiscent of a 90s soccer mom this outfit is. You can practically imagine the tote bag thrown over my shoulder that’s filled with little Timmy’s allergy meds. Or, in my case, the perfect comfy outfit for a short plane ride to New York and then heading to the cutest coffee shop around! Oh, did you think my habit of spending way too much money at coffee shops would stop because I’m going out of town?

Pieces
Sweater: Mom’s Old Sweater- Micheal Kors
Belt: Mom’s Old Belt- Brighton
Jeans: Thrifted- Route 66 Relaxed Fit
